General Search to make sure the mark is clear aka name is not already in use

  1. Google search the name you are thinking about using to make sure it isn’t already being used

  2. Check the United State Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) & the trademark electronic search system (TESS) to see if there are any federal trademarks already filed for the name

    1. *Remember the search only shows exactly what you have put in, any misspelling will yield to no results

      1. Starbuckss will not bring up the trademark for Starbucks (that extra s matters, the TESS system will not guess as to what you really meant)
