TRAFFIC: Do I really need to go court for my reckless driving ticket?
Maybe.
I work throughout many courts in southwest Virginia simply because in a small radius we have quite a few counties (some with two different courts!). I know it seems cliche for an attorney to tell you that you need to talk to an attorney about your reckless driving ticket but it’s true. Notice I did not say hire (although I believe that too) but certainly speak with someone or two! There are local courts here depending on your speed that will actually issue a capias for your arrest if you do not appear. Remember you signed the ticket saying you would appear on your court date on the side of the road with the officer. While some others will simply assess either a fine and/or license suspension in your absence. You want to talk to an attorney who has practiced in the court in which you have your ticket, do they need to live in that county? No, but they should either be experienced in that county or have colleagues in which they can draw advice upon. I hope this helps! Any questions? Email me: theweightliftinglawyer@gmail.com
