"I was just going with the flow of traffic" why this is not a good defense for a speeding ticket in Virginia.

Ah, a tale as old as time. There is probably no phrase more common than someone who has been charged with a speeding ticket or reckless driving ticket in Virginia and telling the Judge “I was just going with the flow of traffic.”

Can this actually harm you? Yes, this phrase can do more harm than good. If you were charged with a speeding ticket and the prosecutor and/or officer never testified as to how much traffic was on the road and you tell the Judge you were “driving along with traffic” what the Judge hears is, you were charged speeding around other vehicles that contained other people and maybe kids. So you did not just put your life in danger but the danger of multiple other people around you.
